ART OF NOISE
State Of The Art
CHINA WOLCD 1075
Masked studio manipulators Art Of Noise have basked in and withstood the rays of three separate remix homages, now gathered as a 3CD package, gleaming in an eye-catching silver foil wraparound. Remaining secure in their position as influential forebears, they first survived minmalisation at the controls of Youth's The Ambient Collection in 1990, dribbling out into a becalmed, found-sound meander that still sounds current. That can't really be said for 1991's The Fon Mixes, where The Prodigy, Carl Cox and 808 State's Graham Massey are too respectful towards the source material. Last year's Drum & Bass Collection shows what should be happening, with junglists Doc Scott. Seiji, Flyright and Digital Pariah subjecting the originals to some almost unrecognisable transmogrifications surely the whole point of the exercise **
